Firecracker Brownies Recipe

3/4 cupbutter or margarine, melted (175 mL)
1 1/2 cupsgranulated sugar (375 mL)
3 eggs (3)
1 1/2 tspvanilla (7 mL)
3/4 cupall-purpose flour (175 mL)
1/2 cupHERSHEY'S Cocoa (125 mL)
1/2 tspbaking powder (2 mL)
1/2 tspsalt (2 mL)
1 cupCHIPITS Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (250 mL)
1/2 cupcoarsely chopped nuts (optional) (125 mL)


    1. Heat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan.

    2. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well with spoon.

    3. In medium bowl, mix together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, beating until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.

    4. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars.

    Makes about 16 brownies.
